By our count, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. has placed nine of its 2017 models on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) list of this year’s safest automobiles. That’s more than the Subaru brand and more than the Honda brand. Heck, that’s more than the Volvo brand. In fact, no other automaker can boast as many vehicles with the IIHS stamp of approval.
If you’re considering a 2017 Toyota Camry, you’ll be happy to hear that this storied model earned the IIHS’ highest marque, Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+). This means the 2017 Toyota Camry aced all five of the IIHS’ key safety exams and also earned a top grade in frontal crash protection and headlights (a new category this year). Both of these automobiles garnered the IIHS’ second-highest award, Top Safety Pick (TSP). This means that these vehicles earned top scores on the five core tests and a top score for frontal crash protection. Since “headlights” is a brand-new criteria, we wouldn’t doubt that these two safe, exciting models upgrade to TSP+ status in 2018.
